Helen M. Harms, 92, of Sumner, died Monday, December 16, 2013, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner, Iowa with Rev. William Runaas, Jr. officiating.  Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery in Sumner. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 19^th, at Becker-Milnes Funeral home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Friday.  Memorials may be made in her name to St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner.  

Helen Mildred, daughter of Dewey and Harriett Zimmerman Duhrkopf, was born February 10, 1921, in rural Fayette County, near Sumner, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Union Evangelical Church of rural Sumner, and graduated from Sumner High School in 1938. On August 18, 1942, she was united in marriage with Myron W. Harms at the home of her parents in rural Sumner. Helen worked for many years at McAloon’s Dry Goods and later at McAloon’s Grocery prior to retiring. Helen and Myron traveled extensively and much enjoyed going into Chicago to see a Cubs game. A longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner, Helen was active in WELCA and the Progressive Club.

Helen is survived by two sisters, Sally Duhrkopf of Waterloo and Sharon (Ron) Seehase of Waverly; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Duhkopf Elliott of Lincolnshire, Illinois and Darlene Duhrkopf of Sumner; a brother-in-law, Calvin Harms of Sumner; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Myron, who died May 2, 2008, and her parents and step-mother, Alberta Duhrkopf, Helen was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Rodney and George Duhrkopf; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Duhrkopf; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Mel and Miriam Harms, Wayne and Virginia Ridge, and Iris Harms.
